The significance of adventitial infiltrations in coronary atherosclerosis.

چکیده
There are a large number of deaths from coronary disease in which a necropsy examination generally gives less evidence of the exact cause of death than the clinical findings. In the absence of fatal structural lesions, acute coronary deaths have been attributed to disturbances of function such as inhibition, arrhythmias, and coronary spasm; but the problem has been one ofdebate rather than observation. Albutt rejected the spasm theory in no uncertain terms, saying " The truth is, spasm of the coronary arteries is a nosologist's conceit to explain puzzles of his own making." The object of this investigation was to attempt to establish some correlation between the histological features of the coronary arteries and the mode of dying. Attention was directed to the changes in the adventitia and in particular to the frequent occurrence therein of discrete foci of inflammatory cells. The incidence of these lesions is analysed, the appearances described, and their significance discussed.

Vascular remodeling occurs in atherosclerosis, hypertension, and restenosis after percutaneous coronary intervention. Adventitial remodeling may be a potential therapeutic target. Yiqihuoxuejiedu formula uses therapeutic principles from Chinese medicine to supplement Qi, activate blood circulation, and resolve toxin and it has been shown to inhibit vascular stenosis. To investigate effects and ...

متن کاملMorphopathological study of effect of Licorice root extract on atherosclerosis process in coronary artery of male fed rabbit
Coronary artery disease due to atherosclerosis is one of the highest killers today. Cholesterol level reduction by diet or medication would lead to either halting, or decreasing atherosclerosis. We examined whether Licorice root extract can halt atherosclerosis. Fifty male rabbits randomly were divided in five groups. They had gone under normal and high cholesterol (HC) diet for six weeks. One ...
متن کاملIncrease in atherosclerosis and adventitial mast cells in cocaine abusers: an alternative mechanism of cocaine-associated coronary vasospasm and thrombosis.
Coronary vasospasm has been implicated as a cause of myocardial ischemia and sudden cardiac death in cocaine abusers. However, the mechanism or mechanisms remain unknown. Autopsy records (n = 5,871) from the medical examiner's files at Baltimore, Maryland and northern Virginia were examined and 495 persons (8.4%) were identified with positive toxicologic findings for cocaine. Of these, six subj...
